BAKER CITY – (Information from Baker City) In a recent update, City Manager for Baker City Jonathan Cannon announced that the city council has established a new “Citizen Hero” award, noting, “the award is intended to honor Baker City Citizens who risk their lives to save another. City staff are currently working on a new webpage with additional details, including nomination forms and specific nomination criteria.

Though not technically a citizen hero based on the current criteria of the title, outgoing director for Baker City public works Michelle Owen could certainly fit the bill. Cannon wrote the following message regarding her departure:

“Director Owen served the city for more than 20 years in a variety of capacities. She is stalwart in her efforts to protect our water sources and has worked tirelessly to provide the city with sustainable infrastructure. She wears many hats in the city and her position is critical to the successful operations of the city.”

Baker City plans to fill the now vacant directors’ position, with additional information to be posted soon. Regarding vacancies, there are still openings for the Public Arts Commission and Public Works Advisory Commission. Those interested must submit a volunteer form by February 28 at 5:00 p.m. For additional information, contact the City Recorder at cityrecorder@bakercity.gov.
