Citations will be issued in a Sunday afternoon crash

ISLAND CITY – (Information provided by the Union County Sheriff’s Department) On July 11, 2021 at about 4:35pm deputies responded to an injury vehicle crash on Buchanan Lane near Walton Road. An investigation of the crash revealed a white 2010 Ford Fusion traveling west on Buchanan Lane and being driven by Josie Rankin (DOB 4/29/99) of La Grande, drifted into oncoming traffic and struck a black 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe traveling east on Buchanan Lane and being driven by Alex Miller (DOB 12/17/89) of La Grande.
The black Chevrolet Tahoe was occupied by Miller, one other adult and three children. All occupants of the black Chevrolet Tahoe were transported to the hospital. The white Ford Fusion was occupied by Rankin, two other adults and one child. All occupants of the white Ford Fusion were transported to the hospital.
No indications of impairment were observed and an initial statement made by Rankin indicated she fell asleep while driving which was consistent with witness statements. Citations will be issued at a later date.
