JOHN DAY – Upland game bird hunters still have the month of January to get any late-season hunting in. ODFW John Day District Biologist Ryan Torland said the chukar and quail seem to hold healthy populations in Grant County:

“We’re kind of coming to the tail-end of a lot of our seasons. Upland game bird season is still going on, like chukar and quail.

Chukars seem to be fairly plentiful, I mean this time of the year, they start to push down on some of the open slopes with the snow. Quail are usually pretty plentiful in this county anyway, especially around riparian areas.”

The season ends on January 31st. Hunters do need an updated 2022 hunting license. Find the Oregon Game Bird Regulations on the ODFW’s website, www.myodfw.com.
