PENDLETON โ The Round-Up City Development Corporation (RCDC) is well on its way to making its proposed Pendleton Regional Sports Complex a reality. The group wants to create a complex that will include soccer and baseball and softball fields that will attract youth sports tournaments from throughout the Pacific Northwest.
Pendleton Economic Development Director Steve Chrisman said parents of young athletes know that the hosts for tournaments is an economic boon to the area and Pendletonโs tourism infrastructure can handle the crowds.
โIt would be great to get some of those dollars coming in here,โ he said. โTheyโre going to get this across the finish line and get this done. Iโm super excited.โ
RCDC, as a nonprofit entity, has received $3 million from the Oregon Legislature which will cover the first phase of the ambitious project on 40 acres of land at Stage Gulch and Airport roads. Thatโs enough for Phase 1 of the project which will be laying the infrastructure and building as many fields as possible.
Phase 1 was described as modest by Joseph Hull of RCDC in an earlier interview. He added that Phase 2 will complete the project. That final phase will depend on voters approving a ballot measure at a future date for the rest of the funding.
