HELLS CANYON – (Information from ODFW) ODFW Announced in the latest recreation report that Chinook Salmon Fishing in Hells Canyon will close temporarily beginning August 10 as per season regulations. The full description of the closure as stated in the recreation report is as follows:
“Fishing for spring Chinook on the Snake River from Dug Bar Boat Ramp upstream to the deadline below Hells Canyon Dam will close at the end of legal fishing hours on Aug 10. Salmon fishing has been very slow on the Snake River in Hells Canyon with no reported catch in recent creel surveys. The limit is four hatchery Chinook salmon of which only two may be adults. Barbless hooks are required.
Fishing for Chinook salmon will reopen on Aug. 18 per the permanent Chinook salmon rules. See page 70 of the 2023 ODFW Sport Fishing Regulations publication for specifics about the fall Chinook Salmon season on the Snake River.”
