PENDLETON – InterMountain Education Service District is cancelling the 2021 Children’s Rodeo due to health and safety concerns regarding COVID-19. The event is for special needs students aged 5 to 10.
IMESD stated that the participants are too young to be vaccinated, and many of them are considered to be medically fragile.
“We regret having to cancel this event again, but know this is the right decision for our medically-fragile students,” Superintendent Mark Mulvihill stated. “Although our lives are returning to a regular schedule after the pandemic we are proceeding cautiously and methodically in order to be safe.”
The Children’s Rodeo was founded in 1984 and is sponsored by IMESD and the Round-Up Association. The special needs participants work with real rodeo athletes in a number of events inside the Round-Up Arena. Students from all IMESD school districts are eligible to participate. Mulvihill said the district looks forward to resuming the event in 2022
