SALEM – Those who have to travel to the west side of the state can enjoy some spring beauty in Salem starting Saturday and lasting through April 4. The North Mall at the Oregon State Capitol will be on display.
The trees are Akebono cherry trees. The event is called a Yozakura, Japanese for a night viewing of cherry blossoms.
The cherry blossoms will be illuminated with Japanese lanterns and lights every night from 6-10 p.m. Visitors are welcome to bring blankets, camping chairs, or an evening picnic to enjoy under the canopy of the illuminated trees.
Those who aren’t heading for the west side can still enjoy the sight. It will be streamed live by Oregon Parks and Recreation at https://www.youtube.com/@OregonParks during the day and evening hours.
