BAKER CITY – (Release from Baker School District) The Baker School District Board discussed options for improving student drop-off and pick-up at South Baker Intermediate School during its April 15 meeting.
Several scenarios were presented to separate traffic flow between bus loading/unloading zones and parent drop-off/pick-up locations, improving safety for students at the intersection of 4th Street and Grace Street.
Proposal #3 was selected as the most favorable, involving a bus lane on Grace Street, parent drop-off/pick-up along 3rd Street, and a new narrow staff parking lot with access from 4th Street. Additional lighting and a plan for snow and ice removal in winter will be part of the project.
“We will continue to work with staff and the City, with input from our school families and greater community, to refine our plan for these transportation improvements at South Baker Intermediate,” says Superintendent Witty. “Without a change, an accident is likely just a matter of time.”
Baker School District plans to have the new transportation plan in place when the 2021-22 school year begins this coming Fall.
