ENTERPRISE – Veterans in Wallowa County will soon see changes to their VA health care options, and they are invited to learn more at a Veterans Town Hall on Friday, March 21 at 2 p.m. at the Eagle Cap VFW in Enterprise. The event will bring together Veterans, their families, community stakeholders, and medical providers to discuss upcoming updates and improvements to local VA services.
Jonathan M. Wainwright VA leadership and staff will be on-site to provide details about these changes and answer questions about health care access, travel, community care, and other Veteran-related concerns. The town hall offers an opportunity for the community to engage directly with VA representatives and ensure Veterans’ needs are met.
One major development under consideration is the establishment of an ATLAS (Accessing Telehealth through Local Area Stations) Clinic in Enterprise at Winding Waters Clinic. ATLAS is part of the VA’s Anywhere to Anywhere telehealth initiative, designed to improve access to care for the nearly 9 million Veterans who rely on VA services—particularly those in rural areas.
Bringing VA Care Closer to Home
The ATLAS program collaborates with public and private organizations to provide convenient locations where Veterans can receive VA health care closer to home. This initiative helps Veterans avoid lengthy travel times to VA facilities while also addressing issues like limited internet access at home, which can hinder telehealth appointments.
How ATLAS Works
ATLAS locations offer private, comfortable spaces equipped with internet access and the technology needed for Veterans to connect with VA providers through VA Video Connect, the VA’s secure videoconferencing app. Upon arrival, an on-site attendant will assist Veterans with checking in and troubleshooting basic technical issues. However, attendants are not VA employees, will not be present during appointments, and do not have access to medical or personal records.
Veterans and community members are encouraged to attend the town hall to gain insight into these developments and share their thoughts on the future of VA health care in Wallowa County.
