RICHLAND, Washington – The public is invited to attend a gathering tomorrow (Saturday) of submarine veterans to honor all who served in the United States Submarine Force.
The event, which begins at 11 a.m., will be held at USS Triton Sail Park, 3300 Port of Benton Boulevard in Richland. It will include a welcome speech and introduction of special guests from the United States Submarine Veterans, Inc. Yakima, a color guard performance, and a ‘Tolling of the Boats” ceremony.
After the event, tours inside USS Triton’s decommissioned sail and conning tower, which are now on display, will be available. USS Triton Sail Park honors submariners and highlights the significance of Triton’s impact on the nuclear age.
Triton was one of the first nuclear-powered submarines. At the time of its commissioning in 1959, it was the longest and most powerful submarine ever built.
