JOHN DAY – The Carrie Young Memorial is in its 31st year, supporting Grant County senior citizens in need. Organizer Lucie Immoos reflected on monies earned and spent last year on behalf of the elderly:
“Last year, we raised $88,559.17.
…it helps all the assisted living facilities in Grant County, and approximately 250 elderly at home. [The fund helps] with firewood, electric [bills], groceries, medical assistance if they have to travel to Bend…”
Carrie Young was Lucie’s sister who helped local senior citizens out of her own pocket, and was tragically killed in a car accident. Lucie, her sister Christie, and their families picked up the baton and carried forward the support in Carrie’s name.
This year’s annual Carrie Young Memorial will be held on Friday, December 1st.
