SALEM – Oregon Sen. Bill Hansell (R-Athena) says the 2021 legislative session has included several disappointments, but the biggest one is that lawmakers are doing business behind locked doors.
“It’s the people’s building,” he said. “It’s the people’s government. It’s the people’s legislature. We need to be able to have the accessibility that we have come to know and appreciate.”
Hansell said that as other businesses and schools are reopening, so should the House of Representatives and the Senate.
“Oregon has always been at the forefront of transparency and openness and to close the capitol down doesn’t accomplish that,” he said.
The building was shut down on March 18, 2020.
