CANYON CITY – The Nugget Street Bridge project is well underway in Canyon City. Grant County Emergency Management Coordinator Eric Bush was in KJDY Studios recently and commended crews on their work. Bush said, “The work replacing the Nugget Street Bridge is probably one of the most important hazard mitigation projects we have going on in the county right now.”

Eric told listeners:

“In Canyon City there are a number of bridges that go across Canyon Creek, and over the years, several of them have been raised because we found that the bridges were just built too low. During flooding events you’d get debris and ice, depending on the hazard. It would cause localized flooding, not only in Canyon City, but even several miles upstream would have an impact. This is the last low bridge.”
