Canyon City exploring other wastewater treatment options

JOHN DAY – Town of Canyon City Manager Tami Kowing was in KJDY Studios recently and explained that Canyon City is under the same wastewater treatment system that John Day operates, and with the new treatment plant coming in, utility costs could rise and continue to rise sharply for Canyon City residents.
Kowing said the town is currently undergoing a feasibility study to explore other options:
“Canyon City is actually doing a feasibility study to see if we would be able to do our own treatment plant. We are looking at lagoons. We will just have to find out if that is something that we are going to be able to do. If it is not any more cost effective, we’ll have to stay where we are; but if it is, we need to do what is best for our residents.”
Kowing said the town hopes the results from the feasibility study will be available this summer.
