PENDLETON – “See something, say something” helped return a stolen car out of Walla Walla to its owner over the weekend. Pendleton Police Chief Chuck Byram said a citizen didn’t ignore something that looked suspicious.
“A resident saw something that he deemed to be suspicious,” Byram said. “Two younger people were running away from a vehicle. Didn’t know why they were running away, but he deemed it was suspicious so we came down and started the investigation.”
Police checked out the vehicle, which it turned out had been reported stolen out of Walla Walla. The investigation led police to locate and charge Kiefer Duane Robison, 19, and Isabelle Sheoships, 18, who police believe was Robison’s accomplice.
Robison is charged with two counts of unauthorized use of a vehicle, being a felon in possession of a weapon, and conspiracy. He is also facing a felony probation violation.
Byram applauded the citizen who made the initial report.
“That is what we need from our citizenry,” he said. “We need them to report those things to us so that we can come down and take a look.”
The chief said that most of the time, the reports end up being not criminal in nature, but that doesn’t mean it’s a waste of time. He said that without that initial report nothing would have happened in this case.
