BAKER COUNTY – Oregon State Police (OSP) in Baker County responded to a driving complaint along I-84 recently that resulted in the arrest of an Idaho man. According to reports, a witness called in the driver for possible DUII. The witness then proceeded to follow the vehicle on I-84 from Ontario to Pleasant Valley, during this time the witness saw the vehicle nearly crash several times.
An officer with OSP located the vehicle near milepost 316, east of Baker City, and witnessed the driver failing to drive within the lane. A traffic stop was conducted, and signs of impairment were observed in the driver, 21-year-old Pedro Ortega of Caldwell, Idaho. Ortega consented to a Standard Field Sobriety Test (SFST) and was subsequently arrested for DUII. The vehicle, a green 1999 Ford F-150, was towed from the scene. Ortega was transported to the Baker County Jail where he refused a breath test. A search warrant for breath and blood was signed and executed on Ortega who still refused the breath test. Ortega was transported to Saint Alphonsus in Baker City for blood draw. He was cited for DUII-Alcohol, Reckless Driving, and Refusing a Breath Test. Oregon State Police was assisted by the Baker County Sheriff’s Office.
