BAKER CITY– Earlier this week firefighters with Baker City Fire and Rescue (BCFD) were able to train on the FireVent prop supplied by DPSST and yesterday C-Shift was able to take a turn. According to BCFD, “crews covered the different cuts, extending cuts vertically and horizontally, and finished up with some chopping of the sheathing.
While they might look like skylights, vent holes act as a chimney to allow the smoke and fire to escape. It was noted in a social media group by the BCFD that they don’t cut on every fire but do take advantage of the tactic when they have enough members operating. Their first action will always be to get water on the fire coinciding with an active search for victims near the fire room.
