PENDLETON – The state’s 911 tax went up another 25 cents on Jan. 1 to $1.25. Pendleton Police Chief Chuck Byram says he hopes some of that money will trickle down to the local law enforcement agencies who pay for Umatilla County’s emergency dispatch services.
“We spend a little over $300,000 a year on dispatch services,” Byram said. “If the 911 tax is increased, that’s more additional funding coming to them that would hopefully lower our burden so that we could use that money elsewhere.”
Byram said that he met with Sheriff Terry Rowan recently who said he is not yet sure how much the county will receive.
“Once they know, they will let us know so that we can properly budget for it,” Byram said.
