PENDLETON – The Pendleton Police Department is asking for the public’s help in solving a carjacking that occurred outside Safeway at 7 p.m. Monday. Police Chief Chuck Byram said the woman had gone to her car in a handicapped space on the deli side of the store, and put the keys in the ignition. She then stepped to the garbage can to discard something.

Byram said at that point, the suspect got into the car.

“She tried to stop him and argued with him for a little bit,” Byram said. “He ended up pushing her out of the car, causing her to skin her knees up pretty good. Then he took off in her car.”

The car that was stolen is a green 2004 Subaru Outback. The license plate number is 982 BHE. Byram asked for the public to keep an eye out for the car and if it’s spotted, call 911. Meanwhile, the police investigation continues.

“Hopefully, video surveillance footage will get us a good look at the individual that took this vehicle,” he said.
