Butcher shop destroyed, other buildings damaged

PROSSER – West Benton Fire Rescue said Underwood’s Prosser Lockers was a total loss after a three-alarm fire Saturday. Next door, the Prosser Police Department suffered extensive damage, and Prosser City Hall had moderate damage.

Cook’s Ace Hardware and the Masonic Lodge suffered smoke and water damage. The blaze, which started in the attic of the butcher shop threatened a row of businesses along Bennett Avenue.

A total of 55 firefighters form 11 agencies fought the blaze. Backing up West Benton Fire Rescue were Benton County fire districts 1, 2, and 4; Yakima County Fire District 5; and the cities of Kennewick, Grandview, Pasco, Richland, Sunnyside, and Toppenish.

Also helping were numerous city employees from all departments, as well as workers form Benton Public Utilities District, Benton Rural Electric Association, and Cascade Natural Gas.
