PENDLETON – The city of Pendleton announced at a transportation open house this evening that it has received more than $2.5 million in grants, meeting the funding goals for the $3 million bus barn facility project.
The bus barn will be built on city-owned land on Airport Hill and will solve the need for having a secure facility to house and protect the city’s transportation fleet. That fleet includes four ADA buses and six ADA minivans. The facility will also include exterior parking, a wash station, an office, storage space, and a break room.
The most recent ODOT grant totals $2.1 million. ODOT has also given a $90,000 grant for planning and engineering. Those planning and engineering projects are to be completed by this fall. Umatilla County committed a grant of almost $505,000 and the city has earmarked $500,000 in transportation funds for the barn. Construction should be complete by the spring of 2024.
Public Works Director Bob Patterson is serving as the project manager. More information about the city’s transit program is available at https://pendleton.or.us/finance/page/transportation.
