HARNEY AND GRANT COUNTY-You may have noticed some smoke to the north, the Burns Interagency Fire Zone is busy working the 300-acre West Silvies prescribed fire.
The burn area is located about 13 miles south of Seneca, just off the 3140 Road, with the north end in Grant County and the south end in Harney County.
Burns Interagency Fire Zone is carefully clearing out dense understory trees, reducing dead and down fuels, creating more open conditions that are better for both wildlife and people, helping maintain forest health, and reducing the risk of large wildfires in the future.
All prescribed burns are carefully planned and only carried out when weather, fuel conditions, and air quality are within safe parameters.
