Burns Interagency Fire Zone Bureau of Land Management Fire Prevention Orders

HARNEY COUNTY(Released by Burns Interagency Fire Zone)-Effective Wednesday, July 10, 2024, Burns District Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is temporarily prohibiting some activities and uses of the public land during periods of increased fire danger. These orders apply to all BLM-administered public lands and includes all Oregon Department of State Lands within the Burns District boundary in Oregon. 

  • No campfires allowed except within  Fish Lake Campground and Jackman Park Campground.
  • Operating a chainsaw between the hours of 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm is prohibited.
  • No off-road parking or cross-country travel. You must not operate or park your motorized vehicle or operate any type of internal combustion engine in an area that is not clear of flammable material.
  • Shovels, water, and/or fire extinguishers are required on public land when operating motorized vehicles or equipment that is wider than 50 inches or has a dry weight of 800 pounds or more.
  • Motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles (ATV), and side-by-side utility terrain vehicles (UTV) must be equipped with functional U.S. Forest Service spark arrestors. 
  • No  smoking outside of a vehicle, trailer, or building, except within areas barren of all flammable materials for at least a six (6) foot diameter, or aboard boats on rivers and lakes.    
  • Do not  discharge, or use any type of fireworks or other pyrotechnic device, to include exploding targets, or tracer or incendiary ammunition.
  • NOTE: These orders are in alignment with Phase B of public use restrictions which are currently in effect on Emigrant Creek Ranger District (the Forest Service- Managed Public Lands within Burns Interagency Fire Zone [BIFZ] ).
  • Fire Danger remains HIGH and Industrial Fire Precaution Level (IFPL) remains at a level I for all of BIFZ.
