Burns FFA’s Johnson and Cushing to receive State Degrees

BURNS – A couple of Burns FFA Chapter members have done the legwork, and will soon be receiving their prestigious Oregon FFA State Degree recognition onstage at the Oregon FFA State Convention.

Burns FFA reports that Dylan Johnson and Braeden Cushing “worked very hard these last couple of months applying for this award and they both succeeded!”

The young men put together a 15-minute presentation to a panel of judges, on top of a whole list of requirements and qualifications.

According to Burns FFA, here’s what’s required to receive the Oregon FFA State Degree. Students must:

  • Have a minimum of 2 years of enrollment in ag classes.
  • Have an accurate record book, dating back at least 2 years.
  • Have $1500 of paid placement or unpaid placement equivalent.
  • Have a minimum of 500 hours in SAE (supervised agricultural experience); must be worked in the last two years.
  • Give a 6-minute speech on an agricultural topic.
  • Perform 10 procedures of Parliamentary Procedure.
  • Maintain a 2.0 GPA.
  • Participate in a minimum of 30 FFA activities (5 must be above chapter level).
  • Participate in 10 school/ community events.
  • Log a minimum of 25 hours of community service.
