Burns, Or (Released from Harney County District Attorney’s Office)-July 15, 2022 West Braughton sentenced to 24 months after pleading guilty to Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle.
The sentenced stems from an October 10, 2021 vehicle theft on East Van Buren Street., Burns.
On October 10, family members associated with an East Van Buren address were working around the property. Braughton was seen on the property and contacted. When confronted, Braughton claimed to be removing his property from the location. Contact was broke. The defendant was later seen, by the same family member, driving a truck stolen from the property.
The theft was reported to law enforcement. Law enforcement located the truck and attempted to intercept. The operator matched Braughton’s general characteristics. The vehicle eluded and law enforcement were unable to stop Braughton in the truck.
A photo throwdown was conducted with the eyewitness. the witness positively identified Braughton as the individual operating the stolen truck.
Harney County District Attorney Ryan Hughes prosecuted the case. A grant jury indicted on charges of Unauthorized use of a Vehicle, a felony and misdemeanor county of Fleeing or Attempting to Elude a Police Officer.
Braughton pled guilty to Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle and was sentenced to 24 months Oregon Department of Correction pursuant to Ballot Measure 57 passed by voters in 2008.
