Burn bans in place for Baker City and Morgan Lake

BAKER CITY & LA GRANDE – As fire season ramps up, local municipalities are gradually implementing their own burn bans. Recently, both Baker City and the City of La Grande (specifically for Morgan Lake) issued their own bans.

For Baker, City Manager Barry Murphy has issued a city-wide burn ban effective 8:00 a.m. today. For La Grande Parks and Recreation Director Stu Spence has issued a campfire ban for Morgan Lake, also effective today. More details on Morgan Lake, as released by the city of La Grande, are as follows:

“Due to the Oregon Department of Forestry’s fire danger restrictions, Morgan Lake fire restrictions will take effect Tuesday, July 9, 2024.

  • Open fires are prohibited, including campfires, charcoal fires, cooking fires, and warming fires, except at designated locations.
    • Portable cooking stoves using liquefied or bottled fuels are allowed.”
