WESTON – Becky Buckles, lead cook for Athena Elementary in the Athena-Weston School District, has been named the Weston Educator of the Year by the Weston Pioneer Association. On Saturday, March 5, Athena-Weston School District Superintendent Ann Vescio presented Buckles with flowers and the title Educator of the Year to recognize her outstanding dedication to the school, its students, and the community.
Buckles has been with the Athena-Weston School District for 13 years and has been the lead cook at Athena Elementary for the past three years , and additionally provides food service to the middle and high schools. Vescio described Buckles’ work as going above and beyond to ensure the students are happy and well-fed, noting “Mrs. Buckles is a treasure to our school district and to her community.” She is known for her attention to detail and willingness to always do more for the students.
Athena Elementary Principal Kerri Coffman noted, “Becky just loves the kids and is always doing a little bit more to bring them joy. For example, on Valentine’s Day, Becky cut all the grilled cheese sandwiches into hearts—she’s always putting in the extra effort to show care.”
Buckles says she was honored to receive the award and noted that her favorite thing about her job is making the children happy. She says she loves kids of all ages and bringing a smile to their faces. The Athena-Weston School District is proud to have her as a member of its team and congratulates her on this well-deserved honor.
