PENDLETON – The late chimpanzee will be the subject of a four-part docuseries called “Chimp Crazy.” Buck was owned by Tamara and the late John Brogoitti who lived in the Pendleton area just across the road from the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office.
Buck attacked Tamara Brogoitti’s adult daughter from a previous marriage in 2021. He was shot and killed by a sheriff’s deputy in order to get medical help to the injured woman. At the time, Tamara Brogoitti praised the officer for quickly putting the chimp down.
It is not legal to own primates as pets in Oregon. However, Buck was grandfathered in because he was purchased prior to 2010.
At the time of the incident, the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals was seeking to get Buck removed from the home. It appears from the description that PETA’s actions are the basis for the documentary. The director is Eric Goode, the maker of “Tiger King.”
Photo of Buck was obtained by PETA via a public records request and did not contain a photo credit.
