Brothers arrested for role in Capitol demonstration

We are learning more about the Klein brothers, who were arrested by the FBI for their roles in the January incident at the U.S. Capitol.

Jonathan Peter Klein, 21, states on social media that he lives in Heppner, but is originally from Heppner. He is a self-professed member of the Proud Boys.

Both he and his brother Matthew Klein attended a Proud Boys rally in Portland in September. In addition, court records indicate Matthew Klein was cited for a firearms violation at a demonstration at the state capitol in Salem in early September. The FBI said the U.S. Marshals Service has not announced plans for transporting the brothers to Washington, D.C. for trial. They are being held without bail in Multnomah County Jail.

PORTLAND – FBI agents from Portland have arrested two brothers from Pendleton on federal charges for their alleged role in the January 6 incident at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. Jonathanpeter Klein, 21, was picked up near Heppner and Matthew Klein, 24, was taken into custody in Sherwood.

The FBI announced via Twitter that the arrests went without incident and the two appeared before a federal court judge Tuesday. Charges against them include conspiracy, obstruction of an official proceeding, obstruction of law enforcement during civil disorder, destruction of government property, entering a restricted building, and disorderly conduct.

Further court proceedings will take place in Washington, D.C.
