BAKER COUNTY – A potentially serious roadside accident thankfully resulted in no injuries earlier this week. On Tuesday, January 28, at around 10:35 a.m., the Oregon State Police responded to a reported multi-vehicle crash along I-84 Eastbound near Milepost 340. A forklift broke loose during an unloading operation and collided with a motorhome on the exit 340 off ramp. The full description of the crash, as provided by Oregon State Police, is as follows:

“OSP responded to a multi-vehicle crash on I-84 East on the 340 off ramp. A forklift operator was unloading the forklift when the retaining chain snapped, causing the secondary chains to break as well. The forklift started rolling down the off ramp, the operator of the forklift tried to jump in the forklift to apply the brakes. The brakes did not work due to the forklift not being under power.

The forklift struck the front of a large motorhome pulling an additional trailer. The motorhome received heavy frontend damage. The operator of the motorhome arranged for their own tow for the motorhome and trailer combination. No injuries were reported. No citations were issued.”
