PENDLETON – Pendleton police officers, based on a tip received Sunday night, entered the fire-damaged home at 628 S. Main St. this morning and discovered a body.
“It is an active investigation,” Police Chief Chuck Byram said. “The scene of the fire is now a crime scene, and we ask that people avoid the area to let our officers investigate.”
Byram said no information about the gender, age, or identification of the body is being released at this time. He added that the Oregon State Police Medical Examiner’s Division, arson unit, and crime lab are aiding with the investigation.
We have reached out to Fire Chief Jim Critchley, whose department cleared the building the morning of May 9. We will add his statement to the story as soon as it is received.
