UMATILLA COUNTY – The Umatilla County Board of Commissioners is contracting with G6 Engineering LLC of Kennewick for services and hardware to be used on the Central pipeline project. The green light was given at Wednesday’s meeting of the board, and project liaison Commissioner John Shafer says it’s vital.
“To make a long story short, this is the brains of the pipeline project,” he said. “This is what gets the water from the river into the pipe and heading south.”
The contract for the services and hardware totals $156,180. That amount is covered by the project’s budget. A long list of items are included in the agreement, including coordinating with the contractor, wireless communications, construction oversight, and wireless communications.
Shafer said that G6 will start this month, complete the programming by February 2024, begin installation on site that same month, and complete the start-up in March of next year. Also referred to as the Ordnance Pipeline Project, the work will bring Columbia River water to the Westland Irrigation District in Echo to provide resources on and around the former Umatilla Army Chemical Weapons Depot land. That land has now been turned back to the Columbia Development Authority by the U.S. Army.
