Bounty from Umatilla County feeds more than a thousand

PORTLAND – The inaugural Bounty from Umatilla County was a huge success. Umatilla County Commissioner Dan Dorran said more than 1,400 people showed up to enjoy tastings and take possession of crops from agricultural producers throughout the county.

The event Saturday in Portland’s Pioneer Square featured James Beard Chefs presenting tastes of products ranging from Pendleton Beef to Hermiston Watermelons. In addition there were thousands of potatoes and watermelons for the attendees. In addition, sips were offered from Echo Ridge Winery and Oregon Grain Growers.

Dorran said it illustrated to Portland residents that products from Umatilla County are used in restaurants throughout the Rose City and the rest of the state.

“(This) incredible event stressed that this is not a rural/urban divide, but rural/urban respect,” Dorran said.
