WASHINGTON D.C. – Former Republican state Senator Daniel Bonham of The Dalles
has been nominated as an assistant labor secretary. He officially resigned from his seat
in the Oregon Senate on October 5

His nomination has been designated as a “privileged nomination” meaning that his
nomination is not automatically referred to a committee. Instead, it is placed on the U.S.
Senate’s Executive Calendar for ten days before it is brought to the floor of the Senate
for confirmation.

Under this process a single Senator can request that the nomination be referred to the
appropriate committee, which would then require the nomination to go through the
typical nomination process.

If approved Bonham would work under U.S. Secretary of Labor Lori Chavez-DeRemer.
The Congressional website says Bonham would be replacing Elizabeth Schoff Watson,
who was the Assistant in the U.S. Labor Department’s Office of Congressional and
Intergovernmental Affairs.

Bonham was appointed to a seat in the Oregon House of Representative in November
2017 where he remained until he was elected to a Senate seat starting in January 2023.
During his time in the Legislature, he at times held the positions of House Deputy
Republican Leader, Deputy Senate Minority Leader and Senate Minority Leader.
