Bologna Fire Update, August 9

GRANT & WHEELER COUNTIES — (Update from the U.S. Forest Service) The Bologna Fire experienced increased activity today, with a spot fire occurring outside containment lines. The spot fire on the southern perimeter is estimated at approximately 1600 acres and continues to advance southward, with firefighters reporting active spotting and torching in the area.
Persistent hot and dry weather, combined with atmospheric instability and sustained winds, created conditions conducive to increased fire behavior. These conditions support active spotting and torching and make containment efforts more challenging.
Firefighters with the Forest Service and mutual aid from Oregon Department of Forestry are responding, including four dozers, two engines, and air attack with additional resources en route.
Emergency notifications and evacuation updates are coordinated through local Emergency Management. Residents near the fire area are encouraged to stay informed through official fire information.
The public is asked to avoid the area for everyone’s safety and to support firefighting operations.
A local Type 3 team is assuming command of the incident. Further updates will be provided as conditions change.
Officials want to remind everyone that the current fire danger rating is EXTREME and Phase C Public Use Restrictions are in effect for the Umatilla National Forest.
