BAKER COUNTY – There’s an old saying; a good friend will bail you out of jail, your best friend will wake up in the cell next to you saying how fun it was. Oregon State Police recently saw a living example of this drunken camaraderie out of Baker City.
On Thursday, January 29, OSP arrested two Boise residents for separate DUII incidents following a traffic stop in Baker City. According to a recent OSP press log, the initial stop occurred at around 11:20 p.m. near the intersection of 7th Street and Court Avenue. After the driver was arrested and transported to the Baker County Jail, the passenger from the original traffic stop, also impaired, arrived at the jail herself in the same vehicle and was subsequently arrested for DUII.
A full summary of the events, as provided by OSP, is as follows:
“On the above mentioned date and time, a Trooper observed a vehicle commit multiple violations near 2nd Street and Broadway Ave. A traffic stop was conducted in the same area and indicators of impairment were observed when speaking with the driver. The driver consented to SFST’s where additional indicators of impairment were observed. The driver was arrested and transported to the Baker County Jail where he provided a breath sample of 0.04%. A urine sample was obtained, and the driver was lodged.
While at the jail, the impaired passenger from the original stop showed up driving a vehicle. She was also arrested for DUII and asked to speak with an attorney. A search warrant was granted, and a blood sample was obtained. She was also lodged at the jail. The vehicle was legally parked and not towed.”
The passenger (and later second driver) was charged with DUII – Intoxicants, Contempt of Court and Tampering with Physical Evidence, while while the primary driver was charged with DUII – Intoxicants.
