Boise Cascade Baseball Fields in Elgin renamed to honor Rick Smith

ELGIN – The baseball fields in Elgin along OR82 have been renamed. According to Fran Zerbel with Boise Cascade, the name change came to fruition after a community member reached out to her asking about renaming the fields to the Rick Smith Memorial Field. Smith, who passed away earlier this year, did a lot of work throughout the years on the little league field so this is a way to honor all that he did.
Zerbel said that after she was approached about the name change, she then approached Boise Cascade who were onboard about the change.
Since that time a sign has been installed and cleanup work on the fields continues. A clean-up day is currently being planned for some time in September. Details on that event will be announced when available.
