OLYMPIA – State Sen. Matt Boehnke (R-Kennewick), the Washington Legislature’s leading expert on cybersecurity and technology according to the Republican party, has been selected to serve on a new task force on artificial intelligence technology.

Boehnke is a retired U.S. Army lieutenant colonel, assistant professor, and founding director of cybersecurity studies at Columbia Basin College in Pasco.

He will serve on the 18-person task force that begins meeting this summer to develop AI guidelines for the state.

“By bringing together a diverse group of experts and stakeholders, we have a unique opportunity to craft policies that balance innovation with public safety and ethical considerations,” Boehnke said. “I am excited to be part of this important work and look forward to our collaborative effort.”

The task force will provide a report to the governor and legislature in 2026.
