Boardman Fire Marshal Marty Broadbent retires after 32 years of service

BOARDMAN – Boardman Fire Rescue District Fire Marshal Marty Broadbent has retired after 32 years of service.
Broadbent began his career in 1994, when volunteers served both the Boardman Rural Fire Volunteer District and the city of Boardman Volunteer Fire Department. The two organizations merged in 1998 to form the Boardman Fire Rescue District.
Broadbent was hired as a full-time fire marshal in 2004.
“Over the years, he became so much more than a fire marshal,” the district said in a statement on its Facebook page. “He became a mentor, a teacher, a leader, and someone everyone could count on.”
During his career, Broadbent was recognized with the Pioneer Award in 2012 and the Boardman Chamber of Commerce Front-Line Award in 2017.
“Chief Broadbent quickly became my right-hand man when I was appointed fire chief, and he was the perfect man for the job,” Boardman Fire Rescue District Chief Michael Hughes said. “Good leaders surround themselves with people who make them successful, and Broadbent is one of those people.”
When asked about his retirement plans, Broadbent said he is looking forward to doing “whatever I want, whenever I want to.”
District officials said that after 32 years, he has earned exactly that.
