BOARDMAN – The Boardman City Council approved a resolution Tuesday establishing rates for curbside recycling, a service now required under Oregon’s Recycling Modernization Act.

The council set a monthly rate of $8 for a 90-gallon cart, which will be collected every other week.

The decision follows a December meeting where a proposed $9.04 rate was tabled. At that time, council members requested more time to review the data and explore alternative pricing.

“After discussion from the last meeting, talking with staff we can afford to do the eight dollars straight so there’s no percentage added onto it,” City Manager Brandon Hammond said during the meeting.

Hammond also recommended offering a 35-gallon cart at a lower rate to all residents. An earlier proposal had limited the smaller cart option to senior citizens.

The new rates will take effect once the recycling program officially launches. While city staff previously reported a possible March start date, a specific commencement date was not confirmed during Tuesday’s session.

Passed in 2021, the Recycling Modernization Act mandates that all Oregon cities with more than 4,000 residents provide curbside recycling services.
