HERMISTON – Before it can start building the ninth home in the Fieldstone Crossing subdivision, the Hermiston School District has to sell the eighth one. The Hermiston School Board of Directors will vote on declaring the newest completed home as surplus property at its regular meeting today (Monday) at 6:30 p.m.

The profits from selling each home are then poured into the next home area high school students will build. The Columbia Basin Student Homebuilder Program is sponsored by the city of Hermiston, the school district, and the Northeast Oregon Homebuilders Association.

Also on the agenda, a proposed school board operating agreement between the board and the district administration is listed as a study item. The first suggested item on the list is not to spring surprises on board members or administrators.

“We agree to ask the board chair or the superintendent to place an item on the agenda instead of bringing it up unexpectedly at the meeting,” the policy reads.

Other items on the list include following the chain of command and owning the collective decision-making process. The meeting is in the board room of Hermiston School District headquarters.
