Board to consider renewing enhanced 911

WALLA WALLA – The Walla Walla County Board of Commissioners holds a virtual meeting at 10 a.m. today (Monday).
On the agenda, commissioners will consider a resolution to renew a contract with the Washington State Military Department for an enhanced 911 communication system in the county. If approved, the new contract would be effective July 1 through Aug. 15, 2022. The contract has been offered to the county by the state Military Department for financial assistance.
Commissioners will also consider a request by the Walla Walla County Sheriff’s Office for authorization of out of state travel for two deputies to attend a survival tactics military/law enforcement certification course at Gracie University, Sept. 26 to Oct. 1, in Coalville, Utah.
“Training provided is directly related to common scenarios law enforcement encounter in the field and evaluated as such,” WWSO Chief Criminal Deputy Richard Schram wrote in a letter to the commissioners. “Internally, the WWSO, has had a need for defensive tactics trainers. We currently do not have any, nor have we had any for years which resulted in WWSO paying outside instructors to come in and teach.
Estimated total expenses for the deputies to attend the survival tactics certification course are $3,247. The meeting is streamed live on the Board of Commissioners page on the county website.
