HERMISTON — (News release from Emergency Manager Sage DeLong) Umatilla County has canceled the special board meeting that was scheduled for today at 3:30 PM at the Stafford Hansell Government Center in Hermiston, Oregon. The meeting was intended to address the urgent need for drone flights to map the fire-affected areas outside of Pilot Rock.
Under county policy, any expenditure exceeding $5,000 requires board approval, typically granted during the Board of County Commissioners’ twice-monthly meetings. The anticipated cost of the drone mapping project was expected to exceed this threshold.
However, with the arrival of new data, the cost has been reduced to under $5,000. This adjustment allows the Emergency Management Department to authorize the expenditure directly, without the need for board approval.
The drone mapping has now been completed, and the data is currently being processed to update the existing maps. We appreciate the community’s understanding and continued support as we work to ensure accurate mapping of the affected areas.
