PENDLETON – November is Native American Heritage Month at Blue Mountain Community College. President Mark Browning said the college’s partnership with the Cayuse, Umatilla, and Walla Walla tribes is invaluable.

“This is a way for us to recognize the importance and the rich history that was here as we came here,” he said.

Shana McConville Radford is the guest speaker this week for one of several Native American Heritage Month activities sponsored by the BMCC Native American Club. Her appearance is live on the club’s Facebook page at noon today (Tuesday).

Radford is superintendent for the Flathead Agency in Montana with the Bureau of Indian Affairs and has been involved with the historic return of the National Bison Range to the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes. She is a graduate of Pendleton High School and Blue Mountain Community College. She earned her bachelor’s degree at Portland State University and has a master’s degree in international law and relations from the University of New South Wales.
