BMCC inducts its first Hall of Fame class

PENDLETON – The Blue Mountain Community College Timberwolves Hall of Fame will induct its first class next month. Three people are being honored. They are long-time coach Jerry Mosby, prolific volleyball coach Dave Baty, and volleyball star Robyn Schirmer. The trio will be honored on May 14.
“We will honor Jerry, Dave and Robyn,” Assistant Athletic Director Jordan Hillmick said. “Jerry’s family will be inducting him since Jerry is no longer with us. Dave will be there. Robyn will be there.”
The public is welcome to be there as well. They will be inducted at 3 p.m. at the Wolfies Award Banquet in Bob Clapp Theater in Pioneer Hall. The event will also see BMCC naming the Riley Freeman award winner as well as the men’s and women’s athletes of the year.
Jerry Mosby spent 24 years as BMCC’s head basketball coach and 23 years as athletic director. He led the Timberwolves to five league championships. His teams won the Oregon Community College Athletic Association titles in 1966, 1970, and 1973. His teams finished third in 1967 and 1970 at the National Junior College Athletic Association regional tournament. His 1969 team finished the season undefeated, winning 18 straight games in what was then a 12-team league.
His career record at BMCC is 381 wins and 243 losses. He was inducted into the Northwest Athletic Conference as an inaugural winner and again in 1989 when his 1969-1970 team was inducted. In 2007, BMCC named the basketball and volleyball court after him.
Dave Baty is one of the most successful volleyball coaches in the history of the NWAC. He captured five conference championships in eight seasons. Four of those were consecutive. He was named all-tournament coach five times and named NWAC volleyball coach of the year three times.
In 2010, Baty was named the American Volleyball Coaches Association Community College Coach of the year. That same year, his volleyball team won the Oregon Sports Team of the Year award as well as the title of both the NWAC’s east region and the conference title. Baty stepped down as coach and is now East Umatilla Fire & Rescue chief.
Robyn Schirmer is a two-time American Volleyball Coaches Association All American. In her conference. She made the second team in 2010 and was named to the first team in 2012. She was named the NWAC Baden Volleyball that year as well. She was a key player for the Timberwolves 2010 and 2012 championship teams. She went on to play at Lewis and Clark State College in Lewiston, Idaho and was named to the Frontier Conference All-Academic Team in 2015. She led the team with 833 assists, and tallied more than 40 assists in six matches, which ranks fifth in LCSC history.
