WALLA WALLA – Supported by a $15,000 Wildhorse Foundation grant, the Blue Mountain Humane Society has completed an indoor doggy lounge at the shelter, located at 7 E. George St., in Walla Walla.
The climate-controlled space allows dogs to showcase natural behaviors to potential adopters, increasing adoption rates and shelter capacity.
“By helping dogs move more quickly into homes, this space allows us to take in more stray dogs and reduce risks to both animals and people,” Blue Mountain Humane Society CEO Dian Ver Valen said. “We are grateful to the Wildhorse Foundation and to the local partners and volunteers who made this project possible.”
The project was made possible through extensive local collaboration, including donated labor from Podium Construction and various community partners and volunteers.
