JOHN DAY – Blue Mountain Hospital CRNA Rod Carpenter was on KJDY’s Coffee Time Monday, and informed listeners that since the first of the year, the hospital is now a certified location to administer prescribed ketamine to patients with depression:
“We know that depression is a growing problem in the United States, and we’re finding that quite a few people are resistant to the normal treatments and medications that we’ve traditionally used for depression. There’s a growing body of evidence that [explains] careful administration of ketamine—which we’ve used in anesthesia for a long, long time as a sedative—can actually help those people who are not getting treated by the regular means of medications.”
Carpenter noted that in the past, patients would have to travel to places like Bend or Boise to receive ketamine treatments.
