PRINEVILLE (Released from Prineville District BLM)-BLM fire crews will initiate prescribed pile burning operations Jan. 7, on the Cline Buttes, including about 670 acres of hand piles. Operations are expected to continue through Friday, as weather and site conditions allow. The burn area is located off Fryrear Road, east of Highway 20 and south of Highway 126.
These burns are designed to reduce hazardous fuels, protect nearby communities, and restore native ecosystems and are conducted under strict safety protocols and in coordination with the Oregon Department of Forestryโs smoke management plan.
โPrescribed fire is one of our most effective tools for reducing wildfire risk and improving habitat,โ said Jona Ensley, assistant fire management officer. โBy carefully planning and executing these burns, weโre helping protect communities and strengthen the health of our public lands.โ
Smoke may be visible for several days after ignition and could settle overnight near residential areas. Residents are advised to close windows, limit outdoor activity, and drive cautiously in smoky conditions. No road closures are expected, but signage will be posted.
