CANYON CITY – Fall is officially here, and black bears are getting fattened up for the winter to come. ODFW District Wildlife Biologist Ryan Torland said there was a bear sighting recently in Canyon City, in the vicinity of Washington Street. He said the bears are attracted to easy food sources, like fruit trees, uncovered garbage, and dog food.
Torland suggested picking your fruit and keeping other smelly stuff away from the open air. Folks should report any bear sightings in town to 9-1-1 and the local ODFW office.
