SALEM โ€“ Senate Bill 95, which increases the number of circuit court judges in some districts including Umatilla and Morrow counties, is finally seeing action in the Oregon Legislature. The Senate did not vote on the bill, instead recommending that it do pass and sending it to the Joint Committee on Ways and Means.

Today (Monday), there will be a work session on the bill before the Joint Subcommittee on Capital Construction, which operates under Ways and Means. Rep. Greg Smith (R-Heppner) is a member of that subcommittee.

In addition to this areaโ€™s Sixth Circuit Court, the bill which is proposed by the Oregon Department of Justice, also adds judges in other circuits. It would add two judges each to Lane County and Clackamas County and would add one more judge in Douglas County.

Earlier this month, ODJ stated its officials are continuing to meet with legislative leaders to make the case for what it considers to be important investments.
